History
The Żwirko and Wigura Polish House in Těrlicko hosts an exhibition entitled "Heroes of the skies." The exhibition is closely linked to Żwirkowisko, a site commemorating the September 11, 1932 plane crash in which Franciszek Żwirko and Stanisław Wigura lost their lives. The first exhibition in Těrlicko on this topic, entitled "Żwirko´s and Wigura´s start to eternity," was created in 1980. The exhibition showed memorabilia from the collection of the first patron of the memorial, Józef Stebel. The current exhibition was created in 2012. Its authors are: Jan Przywara, a member of the local PZKO Group in Těrlicko -Kostelec, and Marian Steffek, an archivist from the Documentation Center of the Polish Congress in the Czech Republic.
Characteristics of the exhibition and collections
The exhibition consists of ten boards with texts and photos, containing biographical information in Polish and Czech languages about the pilots, the history of their cooperation, the Challenge international tourist aircraft competition, the circumstances of the crash in Dolní Těrlicko and the reaction of the Polish population to this tragic event. They also include information on the commemoration of the crash site and the construction of the Żwirko and Wigura Polish House. Before visiting, it is best to first see the Żwirkowisko, which is located near the Żwirko and Wigura Polish House in Cierlicko.
How to visit?
You can visit the exhibition after earlier appointment by phone or email. You can visit the Żwirkowisko on your own, as access to it is not restricted in any way.
